Pirates Dinner Adventure – Review

My family and I had the pleasure of attending Pirates Dinner Adventure on Saturday night in Buena Park and it was awesome! It’s an interactive dinner show that entertained us the entire time we were there – about an hour and 45 minutes. You can arrive up to 2 hours before the show starts for free appetizers but we didn’t think the 3 year old would be able to sit still for 4 hours.

The food was GOOD – adult meals consist of a quarter chicken, mashed potatoes, shrimp skewer and veggies. You can upgrade and get the lobster if you want. Kids meals include mac n’ cheese, chicken nuggets, veggies and mashed potatoes. All meals come with soup or salad, cake and soft drinks. Alcohol is extra.

The show was amazing! The pirates were funny and entertaining. There were sword fights, acrobatics, comedy and even a loch ness monster! Kids even have the option to participate in the show if they want. The boys, ages 4 and 8, loved it. Some parts may be a little scary for the 3 and under crowd.

Overall, it was a really fun night for the family, and definitely worth the drive if you are coming from LA. Find more information here: http://piratesdinneradventureca.com/.

Kango – Uber for Kids!

As parents, we often feel like all we ever do is drive our kids around – drop off/pick up from school, after school activities, play dates…it’s endless! Are we parents or are we chauffeurs? That’s why the Kango app is so convenient – you can schedule rides, childcare, or both! All drivers are background-checked, fingerprinted caregivers who are trained to transport kids. And all cars have carseats and/or booster seats!

We scheduled a ride from West LA to downtown this weekend and it was awesome. The app is very user-friendly and within minutes of setting up my account, I had a driver confirmed. The kids LOVED the ride (note: not all drivers use the company van, many use their own vehicles). Each seat had its own media screen for movies, shows and games. I think they enjoyed the ride as much as the Grammy Museum and the Harlem Globetrotters!

At each step of the way, the app sent me notifications, which comes in handy when Kango drives my kids around and I’m not with them. I know exactly when my ride is confirmed, when they’ve picked up the kids, and when the ride is complete. Since you can also book childcare, you can have the driver stay with your kid for as long as you need.

This service is so convenient, I will definitely use it again!

Ju-Ju-Be Bag Review

My kids are out of diapers (yesssss!) but I’m still not at that stage where I can go back to my nice, pre-mom bags (ladies, you know what I’m talking about). I still need a bag that I can bring to the park and hold water bottles, snacks, wipes, etc. and still look cool. I also wanted something that would allow me to be hands-free because I am often out alone with my two kids and need all the help I can get. That’s why I LOVE the Ju-Ju-Be Be Right Back back pack. It’s big but not too big and has enough pockets but not too many so that I can find everything I need. It’s also extremely comfortable to wear and machine washable!

It comes with a memory foam changing pad but since I don’t change diapers anymore, I use it to cushion my laptop. Yes, it holds my 14″ laptop and since I work from home, it’s nice to be able to carry my work stuff after I drop my kids off at school.

I love this bag. It suits my lifestyle because I’m either out with my kids, working at an event, or toting my computer around. If a backpack isn’t your style, Ju-Ju-Be has a ton of other lines that suits anyone’s needs. Great for travel, too!

Maple Holistics Tea Tree Oil Shampoo Review + Free Sample Offer

That dreaded letter that comes home in your kid’s homework folder, “Dear Parent, someone in your child’s class has been identified as having lice…” All of a sudden you start feeling an itchy sensation in your head. Real or imagined?! It doesn’t matter because you’re already thinking about having to treat everyone in your family not to mention all the sheets, blankets, etc. that have to go through the wash.

That’s why prevention is key. While nothing has been scientifically proven to prevent lice, there is a potential deterrent: tea tree oil. So when Maple Holistics sent me a bottle of their Tea Tree Oil Shampoo, I was excited to try it. The shampoo has a really pleasant smell that is not too overpowering, and it made my hair fell really clean. I used it on my kids and it’s nice to have a product you can use for the whole family. Other benefits include:

Disney on Ice Review: Worlds of Enchantment

Last night we attended Disney on Ice: Worlds of Enchantment at the Staples Center. The show featured characters from Toy Story, The Little Mermaid, Cars and Frozen (of course). The show was fantastic! OK, maybe the Toy Story segment ran a little long, but overall we had a great experience. Even the 2 1/2 year old stayed in his seat, entertained by the show the entire time! And the 7-yr olds want to go back. Not in a few months, not next year, but tomorrow.

I was most impressed by the Cars segment, it was probably the shortest one, but seeing those life-sized Cars on ice was pretty cool. The show lasted about 2 hours, with a 15 minute intermission. Definitely bring warm clothing as it gets a bit chilly in the arena. You can bring a stroller, but you will have to check it in at Guest Services, which was not a big deal at all.

I highly recommend the show, use code mom20 for a 20% discount on select dates in the Los Angeles area. Have a great time!img_1743 d29_-20080904_0168russdfinalmom-discount-flyer
