Princesses, TV stars, and Alkaline88!

You guys completely rocked our latest Frozen Sing Along at The Play Destination! We were blown away by your divas and their musical prowess. And all of our little princesses fell in love with the real life Queen Elsa from Smile and a Song Princess Parties!

Last week we got to interview mommy, actress, entrepreneur and author, Brande Roderick. Brande is ridiculously gorgeous, and has starred in Baywatch, Celebrity Apprentice, and Celebrity Apprentice All Stars. These days, she’s a successful entrepreneur who works with the likes of Adam Levine (swoon!), and she’s also a mom who inspires us with her ability to keep the wheels spinning, while nurturing the people she loves.

Brande was kind enough to send us an entire case of Alkaline88 water to share with our Mommytrain riders, and you guys loved it! So we asked Brande about how she got into the Alkaline 88 business, and how she keeps things balanced as a working mom– something a lot of us struggle with, as well.

Brande RoderickMT:       How did you first learn about alkaline water?

Brande: Actually, my manager called me and told me I had to try Alkaline88. He knew I stuck to an alkaline diet and thought I would love the alkaline water, which I absolutely did! I had been eating alkaline foods for over 10 years and was extremely excited to now know that I can actually drink alkaline water.

MT:       You already have your hand in a lot of successful business ventures, plus acting, and Celebrity Apprentice, and being a mom! So what made you want to add Alkaline88 as a business enterprise?

Brande: It very much excited me to be able to represent something that I strongly believe in! I believe that our lives are better when our bodies are in balance, and the quickest and easiest way to do that is through Alkaline88 water.

MT:       What are some of the benefits of alkaline water that most people don’t know about?

Brande: There are actually a ton of benefits. If you just do a simple Google search on the benefits of being alkaline, you’ll see a ton. In fact, Dr. Otto Warburg won the Nobel Prize in 1931 for proving that cancer cannot live in an alkaline environment. For me, it has helped my skin tremendously. I did an interview with Brandi Glanville from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and she swears that it cleaned up her acne.  It also helps my energy, my heartburn, and my joint pain. My very good friend, Marc, said that if he stops drinking alkaline water for even a week, his joint pain is back. These are just some of the many benefits of drinking Alkaline88.

MT:       Has alkaline water made a difference in your life as a mom? What would you say to other moms who are considering it?

Brande: Your kids will love it! Every night before bed, my boys ask for water. The other night, Mommy was too lazy to go downstairs to get water, so I used tap water out of my son’s bathroom. I gave it to him and he said, “Ewww, gross, Mommy! I want alkaline water.” I was surprised that my little four-year-old noticed the difference in taste and demanded alkaline water. They say kids always tell the truth. Put your kids to the test and see what they say.

MT:       What’s the hardest part of being a mom and an entrepreneur? What’s the best part?

Brande: It’s the same answer for both: being able to work from home.  The hardest part is that they are constantly coming into my office at all times during the day while I’m trying to get things done, which makes it difficult at times, and makes my job take longer than it should.  Of course, the best part is that I work from home and get to see my children, kiss them goodnight, eat lunch with them, etc.

MT:       How do you keep your schedule balanced between work life, home life, and leisure time? Where do you go for help when you need it?

Brande: Keeping everything balanced is a constant challenge. I like the motto “work hard, play hard.” I will travel for three days working like a dog so that I can come home and just play the role of mommy for a couple of days. I also think it’s important to take time for yourself, whether it’s getting your hair done, nails done, spray tanning, etc. I feel it’s important to do those girly things, because when you look good, you feel good.

MT:       Any tips for moms who are looking to create their own business opportunities from home?

Brande: I say go for it. As a mom, being your own boss is key to creating your own schedule. The best advice that I can give is to choose something that you’re passionate about.  I’m sure you’ve heard it before, but it truly makes a difference when you believe in something as opposed to just doing a job. For instance, for me, being able to go out into the world and talk about Alkaline88 is a dream come true because I wholeheartedly believe it will help change people’s lives.

We’re definitely fans, Brande! Thanks for taking the time to share your know-how with us!

If you missed out on our latest sing-along, have no fear! We’ll be rocking it every month from now on. If you’d like to give Alkaline88 a try, and find out about the health benefits of eating an alkaline diet, check out the website: http://www.thealkalinewaterco.com/

‘Playing House’ Airs Soon, and We Got to Hang Out On Set!

Playing House

Remember that show BFFs on NBC? It starred real life best friends Lennon Parham and Jessica St. Claire, and it was hilarious. Well, those two had babies, and now they’re back with their own sitcom about life as a mom on USA network! The cast list is incredible. They got stars from The Office, Saturday Night Live, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Malcolm in the Middle, Arrested Development, and Key and Peele!

On the subject of gathering such a talented group of comedians, Jessica said, “We had babies and we were exhausted, so we decided to cast the funniest improvisors we could so we didn’t have to do so much work.” She’s totally right, too, because these people work together like geniuses. But Malcolm in the Middle star Jane Kaczmarek says these two BFFs don’t really need much help in the writing department. In fact, Jane said the main reason she joined was because the scripts were so hilarious to begin with!

And even better, you should see the set these ladies designed. It’s built on the old 3rd Rock set. For the planning stage, Lennon and Jessica put together Pintrest boards of all their fantasy dream house ideas, and then they let designers bring them to life! Wouldn’t that be so fun if that happened at your house?

The other thing that blew us away was the fact that these mamas are living their dreams and doing it all. There’s a nursery room on set, where moms on the cast can pump, hang with their babies, and even take a little nap if necessary. They also get to write, act, direct, promote, and live their best lives while nurturing their families. We’re more than a little inspired by that.

Write it on your calendar: Playing House, April 29th, 10:00 pm on USA. You’re going to love this!

The Single Moms Club Movie: The Interview

The Single Moms ClubOkay, guys. We know we have the best job in the world. We get to organize events and gift bags for you with the help of very cool local businesses and sponsors, and best of all, we get to hang out with you and meet your adorable offspring. But… well… our job got even more awesome this week.

Guess who we got to interview? No, don’t guess. We’ll tell you. We got to sit down with the cast of Tyler Perry’s new movie, The Single Moms Club! And we asked them lots of Mommytrain type questions about motherhood and work and life in general. It was just like a Mommytrain roundtable session, except with movie stars!

If you haven’t heard of it yet, check out the movie website for trailers and clips: http://thesinglemomsclub.com.  Here’s the synopsis… “When five struggling single moms put aside their differences to form a support group, they find inspiration and laughter in their new sisterhood, and help each other overcome the obstacles that stand in their way.” …So, um…Remind you of anything? It’s like Mommytrain in movie form! This is a flick about five mamas, dealing with the crazy realities of life after kids, and taking comfort in the camaraderie of other mamas, just like we do!

And it turns out the leading ladies have their own real life stories of motherhood in the trenches. In fact, Nia Long almost didn’t accept the role at all, because she didn’t want to leave her son behind. She said, “He’s my priority. I don’t want to be away from him that long.” When she talked to Tyler Perry about her concerns, he offered to give her son a role in the movie, so she could keep him close. (But Nia made him audition for it anyway, because she’s cool like that, and her son totally got the part!)

Cocoa Brown said this was like the perfect part for her, because she’s actually becoming a single mom this year, after separating from her partner. She said she’s normally really outgoing and funny, but this set and story made her a little nervous. Tyler Perry pulled her aside at one point and told her, “I know exactly what’s going on, and you can do this!” and talked her right through her fears. She ended up improvising half the role after that, because it came so naturally.

Zulay Henao told us that she connected with this role as a daughter rather than a mother. It brought back lots of memories and emotions from growing up with her single mom. She felt that by playing this part, she was finally able to relate to the hard times her mother had to go through.

We’re hyped that a filmmaker is actually taking notice of the extraordinary power that mom-to-mom connections can create, and we definitely cannot wait to see it. Don’t be jealous, but we’re going to the premiere!! Make sure you get tickets soon, and grab a few favorite girlfriends to bring along. This is gonna be so fun!

Special thanks to Tyler Perry and the cast of The Single Moms Club for letting us talk motherhood with some super-powered women!

Do You Want to Build a Snowman? (A Blog About Our Fanatical Love for Frozen)

February 26, 2014

Frozen obesession

We just can’t let it go. For the first time in forever there’s a Disney movie with not one, but TWO princesses, and they both kick booty and sing like goddesses and literally rule.

And we’re not alone. Frozen merchandise sells so fast that all the Elsa and Anna costumes have already evaporated like snow in summer. If you want one of those puppies now, be prepared to shell out $300-$800 on eBay. Forget about licensed birthday party supplies!

For any other movie, that kind of following might be a little disturbing. But in this case, I am totally down with Sophie rocking the Elsa dress and pretending to be a full-grown woman who owns her own talents and loves her people like a boss.

So that’s a big part of the reason we’re hosting this Frozen Sing-along Play-along on March 2nd. We want to get together and rock out to some of the best musical moments ever with you and your littles. Hopefully they’ll be so worn out by the time we’re done, you can put them to bed and watch Frozen score two Oscars that night! …Although you might want to let them stay up to watch Irina sing “Let it Go” live. Otherwise, you could be out in the cold the next morning.
